The Team

We're the right people to do this, because we're creative, flexible and focused on story and audience.

We're not experts (yet!) in mapping software or finessing databases. But, we each bring skills to the table, and have a track record of piloting technology and new ways of working within the CBC.

Who we are:

Lisa Johnson is a storyteller who does her own math. She reports for CBC News in Vancouver, where her television work has been nominated for regional and national investigative awards. Lisa has also worked in radio news, and current affairs, and on the web team that piloted citizen journalism for CBC News — so she has a good sense what everyone needs from a story. She started crunching numbers on spreadsheets more than a decade ago studying Biology.

Devon Goodsell is a reporter for CBC's regional B.C. news site, which has won several local and national awards. Before that, she also worked in radio news and current affairs. Because she already works on the site, she knows the quirks and protocols that come with publishing on CBC.ca's software. But that hasn't stopped her from pushing the newsroom into new interactive territories. She is a social media nerd and loves using the latest online tools to help tell stories.

Gloria Leung is a web developer* who speaks journalism. As B.C.'s regional web developer, she's created sites that win online news awards year after year. She was also a recipient of the 2011 CBC President's Award as part of the team that revamped sites across the network.

*Admittedly, it might be an embarrassment of riches to have full-time web developer on a small team. We think it's crucial to have a slice of Gloria's time, and her involvement consulting on code and design, but don't expect to need a web developer full-time.
